Dress Code

Beginning in Fall 2025, Dance N Beyond will require all students to follow a dress code. This dress code is an important part of maintaining focus, safety, and professionalism in the studio. Proper attire ensures there are no distractions, creates a sense of uniformity and studio etiquette, and allows teachers to clearly see alignment so they can provide corrections effectively. Most importantly, it helps keep dancers safe while training. Our official studio color is periwinkle, and we encourage students to wear it proudly whenever possible!

*Please note: Sweatpants, flared yoga pants, street shoes, and casual clothing of any kind are not permitted in the studio. All ballet and pointe dancers must have their hair pulled black in a neat ballet bun prior to each class. In all other classes, hair should be in a neat bun, braid or similar up-do. Dancers with very short hair should pin their hair away from the face or slick it back to the best of their ability. Large/dangly jewelry should be removed prior to every dance class.

Tiny Tots

Tiny tots should wear a leotard and pink tights to every class, and are welcome to wear ballet skirts or dresses. Leg warmers and accessories are allowed. Tiny tots will need one pair of pink ballet slippers and one pair of black tap shoes. Boys may wear a black leotard or plain white, fitted t-shirt/tank with black jazz pants or leggings.

Ballet & Pointe

Ballet and pointe dancers may wear a leotard of any color with pink tights. Ballet skirts, warm ups, and other fitted cover ups are allowed. Dancers should have at least one pair of pink ballet slippers. Pointe shoes are specifically fitted to each dancer - Miss Ann will assist with fittings and approve of shoes as needed.

Lyrical & Contemporary

Lyrical and contemporary dancers should wear a leotard of any color and nude tights. Dance shorts, ballet skirts, and other fitted cover ups are allowed. Nude jazz shoes (closest to the skin tone of the dancer) are required for both lyrical and contemporary classes. These shoes will be worn in all performances.

Tap

Tap dancers should wear a leotard or fitted top with black leggings or black tights. Dance shorts and other fitted cover ups are allowed. Tap shoes are required - younger dancers may wear a standard pair of beginner tap shoes with velcro, buckle, or black laces. Intermediate and advanced tappers may wear standard black lace-up tap shoes, or a low-heeled shoe with a strap - Miss Michelle will declare which shoe is best depending on costumes, performance themes, etc.

Jazz

Jazz dancers may wear a leotard of any color with nude or black tights. Ideally, all jazz dancers will have one pair of nude jazz shoes (closest to the skin tone of the dancer), and one pair of black jazz shoes. Our jazz instructors will declare which style is to be worn in performances, depending on the color of the costume/tights. Either color is allowed for class.

Caribbean

Caribbean dancers may wear a leotard of any color with nude or black tights. Ballet slippers or jazz shoes are both allowed in class, and dancers may occasionally dance barefoot - Miss Coryse will declare which style shoe is best depending on costumes, performance themes, etc. Miss Coryse will also supply skirts, headpieces, and accessories as needed.

Acro

Acro dancers may wear a leotard or unitard of any color with nude footless/convertible tights. Dance shorts are allowed, but absolutely no other coverups should be worn. Acro dancers will always dance barefoot. Hair MUST be slicked back in a neat bun to avoid getting pulled or caught while tumbling. Avoid claw clips and other hard hairpieces.

Private Lessons & All Other

When in doubt, always wear a leotard and tights with appropriate shoes. In private lessons, dancers may be allowed to wear other attire/hairstyles to align with their solo choreography. Special requests should be discussed with the instructor and approved.
